Love this band , althougth the were lumped in with the "Anarcho" punk scene and had a release on Crass records they were never really very political ,the subject matter of the songs were more macabre in nature and lead guitarist Nick Blinko's obsession with classic Cosmic horror writer HP Lovecraft and all things insane . Blinko is now a well established " outsider " artist , his obsessive , beautiful drawings adorned the RP covers and are now in collections around the world .

'The United State of Graffiti' Limited edition print from the Dondi White Estate

Two lucky winners will walk away with a limited-edition art print each as Threenine teams up with Tangent books for its biggest competition to date. 1st prize - one of Threenine's Dondi White graffiti prints titled 'The United State of Graffiti' worth £170.

Dondi who sadly passed away in 1998, made his mark on the graffiti scene during the late seventies and early eighties painting th e subway trains in New York with bold, colourful pieces. After being featured in the graffiti bible 'Subway Art' and the classic film/documentary 'Stylewars', the American artist quickly became an icon within the graffiti-art scene in his own right.

Although not directly linked with the Bristol graffiti scene and the UK, Dondi and and his fellow N.Y writers had an extensive impact on many teenagers around the world, including a young Bristolian and Wild Bunch affiliate, Robert Del Naja who would later go on to form the world-renowned band Massive Attack.

As well as producing two decades of the most influential alternative dance music, 3D has been creating art for over 20 years - some of which has appeared on the band's album covers, such as Heligoland, he has also been featured in the celebrated book 'Spraycan Art' alongside legends such as Goldie, Seen&nbs p; & Mode 2.

A lucky second winner will bag themselves this signed Beezer print of Robert Del Naja aka 3D in action, worth £95, kindly donated by Tangent Books! The image - taken from 'Wild Dayz' one of many aspiring street art books published by Tangent.

Finally if that's not enough, one runner up will win 5 oversized art postcards courtesy of Threenine.

Reasons why the early 70s was the golden age of TV

Been researching early to mid 70s TV programmes..there seems to have been a wave of alien/pagan and apocalyptic themes running through a lot of theses programmes...some of them were produced for teenagers and offered a much more powerful and in some cases downright scary veiw of the world ....cant imagine programmes like this being made today really...after looking at TV in the early seventies for a while now and remembering the stuff I used to watch...(i was saturated with TV during this era)Ive noticed these darker themes running through popular culture even reaching primetime tv shows like Top Of the Pops ...remember the shows dance group "PANS" people?and popular rock groups like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.Books we read at school like The Owl Service by Alan Garner were sinister tales of ancient forces breaking into this world.The resurgence of Folk music which harked back to the old times of a pre christian world.The good old BBCs sound department :the BBC Radiophonic Workshop were producing "Haunted"soundtracks for various shows lie Dr Who creating weird sound scapes consisting of electronic bleeps and unearthly sounds creating a much more alien atmosphere than the Dr Who we have today with its really "normal" cheesey soundtrack.Ive been thinking about the reasons behind this cultural trend towards darker themes in popular culture and in my opinion may have had a lot to do with the late sixties Hippy era and the ingestion of LSD by a huge proportion of the younger generation of that time,hippies wanted to return to the "garden" an innocent ,free vision of the world,as this vision came crumbling down towards the end of late sixties... the trip was over and a darker element crept in as the new decade began this conciousness pervaded film making and Tv production and reached all areas of popular culture from writing to "light" entertainment...I could expand on this theme further but for now heres a few examples to illustrate my point :

Children of The Stones made by our local TV company HTV West ...this scared the shit out of me!

The Changes a BBC show aimed at Teenagers about an apocalyptic situation where humanity is driven by a unknown force to destroy technology and return to a pre industrial age.

Payed a visit to the Tank Museum at Bovington in Dorset...used to go loads when I was a kid...loved it... loved tanks basically...havnt been for more than 30 years..and wasnt dissappointed... realised where some of my drawing inspiration comes from...some seriously mutant vehicles there and the WW1 tanks and contraptions are amazing...

Time for some early influence :Ken Reid

These are all by illustrator Ken Reid (1919-1987)who worked on loads of Kids comics such as Wham ,Buster and Scorcher. He did many other characters and super horror posters for Monster Fun..Shiver and Shake...Whoopee!!..Cor!!...etc.I loved this stuff when I was a kid ,particulartly the weird horror tinged stuff ike the "world wide weirdies" series,grimy yet vibrant colours,mutated characters ,mentle stuff for a childs comic really..these came out in the early to mid seventies when there was a trend towards horror/comedy style comics just before Sci-fi style comics like 200AD took over. Been making a horse sculpure out of trash collaborating wih Rachel Macleay.The sculpture has gone to an exhibition at Horseworld near Bristol .As luck had it a commission came up to paint a horsebox which I did with Pen ,it all came together a treat as we got to use the box to transport our horse which caused a few funny looks on the way to Bristol.

Dropped this down in Bristol at Upfest (the Urban Paint Festival) .Were out the way of the mayhem down by the river, a quiet spot with a steam railway behind our boards ,was definitely a fun day painting in relative peace with Sorse Tird Eye & Pen.The event was a bit hectic for me and also strangey felt a bit like school... really though fairplay to the organisers must have been a difficult task to organise 150 or so painters in different venues ...good on em.... also saw some good work there particularly Jody and Solo one s stuff.

Some highlights from a show Ive got on at the mo at the Monkey Bar in lovely Swansea.Also featured are works by Vermin, Tarqs and Rachel Macleay.Pretty happy with this show, put a lot of effort into the hanging and came out really well.Think the owners of the bar were a bit freaked out by the content which is par for the course these days but they seemed to warm to it as the crowd on the opening night seemed to be really diggin the work on display.

Dropped this with me old mucker pen on shapes duty at Children of the Jam..a huge paint out down at the Arnolfini in Bristol to coincide with the release of Children of the Can .It was stupid cold and very hard work as we chucked on too much emulsion which refused to dry in the icy foggy conditions.Anyway this is the result Im thinking of going back and adding a bit more and bringing it up too scratch..

Just did some live drawing at The Not Just Banksy event at UWE in Bristol alongside Inkie and the Weapon Of Choice boys:Cheba Lokey and Nikill .It was a kind of Graff showcase for the students with Flx doing a talk about his eagerly awaited book :Children of the Can...live painting outside during the day and us lot doin the live drawing thing in the evening.

My partner Rachel Macleay and I created this plastic creature for the Frome Festival,Blue House Sculpture Show..We used 100s of milk bottles and cider bottles to create the exoskeleton for the beast that were tessilated to create a scale like effect.We received a good response from visitors and a few remarked on the smell of gone off milk when stood downwind from the creature.The work was situated in the woodland part of the Blue House Garden which contrasted nicely with the huge amount of trash used to create Plastazoa.
